MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Troy scored in every inning but the fifth in Tuesday’s 20-5 win over Alabama State in the 2nd annual MAX Stingfest game.
It was an onslaught by the Trojans as they recorded 21 hits - six of them home runs - led by Drew Frederic’s 4 for 7 day at the plate.
Played at the minor league venue Riverwalk Stadium, Troy’s bats were anything but. Of all their hits, 11 of them were for extra bases. The Trojans had more extra base hits than the Hornets had total hits (9) all game.
Jeremy Rivera took the "L" on the mound for ASU as he went just 2.0 innings giving up seven runs on seven hits.
By the fifth inning, the score was already 13-2. ASU’s Eriq White singled home Chrisopher DeGuzman in the third inning and then in the fourth, Yamil Pagan singled home the second run of the game for the Hornets.
Pagan had the hot bat for ASU, driving in another run in the eighth inning before back-to-back bases loaded walks concluded the scoring for the Hornets. He finished 2 for 6 with a run scored and a pair driven in.
For Troy, all three of Chase Smartt’s hits went for extra bases - two doubles and a homer. Also hitting deep shots for the Trojans included Rigsby Mosley, Manning Early, Reed Smith, Tanner Jackson and Cole Prestegard.
Max Newton got the "W" on the mound for Troy.
Alabama State has another mid-week game against UAB Wednesday in Birmingham. Troy prepares for conference opponent Georgia Southern starting Friday.
