COVINGTON COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - A Covington County farmer was killed in an accident Monday around 11 a.m.

Brandon Holt, 20, was cutting hay in a field five miles north of Lockhart off State Road 55 when he was electrocuted, said Covington County Sheriff Blake Turman.

Turman said Holt’s tractor broke a guide wire from a utility pole. When he turned to make another pass on the field, he saw the broken wire and attempted to move it, the sheriff said. The wire was charged, and Holt was electrocuted.

Covington County Coroner Norman Hobson said Holt was pronounced dead at the local hospital.

Holt was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and graduated from Pleasant Home School in 2017. He is survived by his parents, Tammy and Joey Holt, and his brother, Justin Holt.
