GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - A suspect has been arrested after a body was found inside a burned vehicle in Geneva County.
The body was discovered in a vehicle burned beyond recognition on Highway 167 under the Choctawhatchee River bridge near Hartford on Wednesday. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences conducted an autopsy on the victim, but the identity is not yet confirmed.
According to Lt. Heath Carpenter with the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, authorities identified a person of interest in the death investigation, 36-year-old Chad Dewayne Brogdon of Level Plains on Wednesday. On Thursday, he was charged with murder and abuse of a corpse.
Carpenter said Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms requested the assistance of SBI in the investigation, and agents worked with multiple law enforcement agencies to process the scene and conduct interviews.
Brogdon was placed in the Dale County Jail with no bond.
