Brutal heat ahead for Alabama

Potential record-breaking temperatures are likely by the end of the workweek...

Josh Johnson's Monday night update

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Temperatures will gradually drop down into the 60s across most of the state tonight. Tomorrow will be very similar to today, expect one or two stray showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon hours, and PLENTY of heat. Temperatures will skyrocket into the upper 80s and lower 90s across the state.

The heat continues through the work week; temperatures each day will hit the mid and upper 90s. Each day gets a degree or two hotter, which will mean some extreme heat by the end of the work week.

The European computer model has been incredibly consistent in suggesting a major heatwave, and showing it lasting through not only this week but next week as well. This may be one of the hottest Memorial Day weekends we have seen in years.

Upper 90s are a given, and we could very well deal with triple digit heat by the weekend and into next week. Be ready for scorching heat!

Rain chances stay very low, as temperatures surge very high. A dry ground will allow even MORE heat to build, so this stretch of hot, dry weather may last longer than we’d like.
