MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Calvin Pope, 31, has been arrested on child abuse counts for reportedly victimizing a child. He’s charged with first-degree rape and sexual torture, according to court documents.

Montgomery police tell WSFA 12 News they received a call Monday that a child had been raped. Pope was developed as a suspect and the following day, he was formally charged with two Class A felonies.

Pope’s bail was set at a combined $120,000, and he made bond Wednesday. His first court appearance is set for Thursday.

Officers confirm the victim knew Pope and is a female younger than 12-years-old.

WSFA 12 News attempted to contact Pope. However, an attorney wasn’t listed in his case file at the time of this publication.

If you suspect a child is a victim of physical or sexual abuse, you can make a report with your county DHR or child advocacy center.
