BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - We’re on your side finding out how an executive order signed by President Trump will impact Alabamians.

Folks at Legacy of Hope tell us Alabama is 12th in the nation for deaths related to kidney disease. In fact, we have more than 1,000 people on the kidney waiting list.

The executive order aims to make it easier to get a kidney transplant, reduce the number of kidney patients, and provide incentives for preventive care.

“From a donation perspective, the fact that they are considering to remove the regulatory and the financial disincentives for transplant centers to accept older and more medically complex organs will only increase the supply of kidneys and decrease the time on the waiting list,” said Legacy of Hope Executive Director Chris Meeks.
