MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Every Monday during the 6 p.m. newscast, the WSFA 12 Sports team announces three nominees for the Fever Star Athlete of the Week award.

Then it’s up to Fever Country to determine the winner! Watch the highlight videos, then vote! We’ll announce the winner Thursday during our 6 p.m. sportscast.

Here are the Fever Star Athletes of the Week from the 2019 season:

Reeltown's Eric Shaw wins Week 0 Fever Star Athlete of the Week
  • Week 0: Reeltown High School’s Eric Shaw - He racked up 17 tackles a sack and a forced fumble on defense while also hauling in a one-handed two-point conversion in the Rebels season opening win over Bullock County.
St. James’s Austin Gavin named Week 1 Fever Star Athlete of the Week
  • Week 1: Saint James’ Austin Gavin - The Trojans running back rushed for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 9 carries and he added an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in St James win over Straughn.
Montgomery Catholic's Christian Ivey named Week 2 Fever Star Athlete
  • Week 2: Montgomery Catholic’s Christian Ivey - Ivey passed for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns while rushing for 73 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Knights’ win over Dale County Friday.
Bullock County's Kenny Owens wins Fever Star Athlete of the Week
  • Week 3: Bullock County’s Kenny Owens - Owens had 19 carries for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns in Bullock County’s win over Dadeville.

At the end of the season, we’ll invite all the weekly finalists to the station for a Fever Star Athlete party. That’s when we’ll name the Fever Star Athlete of the Year!
