Former Prattville Mayor Gray Prices dies

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WSFA) - Former Prattville Mayor Gray Price has passed away after a battle with cancer.

According to Autauga County Assistant Coroner Whit Moncrief, Price passed away at Prattville Baptist Hospital. He was 76 years old.

Price was once a 9th grade principal in Autauga County but decided to run for mayor in 1980 and won. Price served three terms starting in 1980 to 1992. The new Autauga Creek bridge was named after Price during Jim Byard’s administration.

“Mayor Price fought and probably took some political hits at the time for running sewer all the way to the interstate. In my opinion very visionary because subsequent mayors were able to use that sewer line for strong economic growth. I mean you think about the golf course is there now, Bass Pro is there now, Prattville’s east shopping district and a number of homes are there now," said former mayor Jim Byard.

Price’s funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday morning at First Methodist Church in Prattville.
