MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Huntingdon Haws have opened the 2019 season with a big win. The Hawks defeated Guilford College 69-43 at Charles Lee Field.
The game started relatively slowly but picked up steam as it went on. Huntingdon only led 14-7 after the first quarter. 2018 1,000-yard back Eric Thomas opened the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run. It was the first of his three rushing touchdowns Saturday. He rushed for 134 yards.
Otis Porter had three catches on the afternoon. They were all touchdown catches. He caught the first of his three touchdown receptions to give the Hawks a 14-7 lead.
By halftime both teams had combined for 65 points as Huntingdon led 35-30.
Quarterback Michael Lambert threw three touchdown passes in the second half. he finished the game 18 for 29 with 336 yards and six touchdown passes.
The Hawks also returned a missed field goal for a touchdown.
As a team, Mike Turk’s squad finished with 592 total yards of offense. Combined, both teams went for 998 total yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Hawks are on the road next Saturday against Birmingham Southern College. That game will kick at 6 p.m.
