67-year-old man killed, officer injured in officer-involved shooting in Vestavia Hills

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WBRC) - We’re learning more about a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday evening in Vestavia Hills.

Officers responded to the 4400 block of Old Overton Road Saturday at 4:20 p.m. on a report of a person with a gun. Investigators say when officers got to the scene they made contact with a man and shots were fired.

The suspect was shot and pronounced dead on the scene. He has been identified as 67-year-old Douglas Harold Hart.

An officer was injured and taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

As of Monday morning, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says a cause of death is not known despite law enforcement saying there was a shooting.

The case has been turned over to ALEA.
