MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed teased a major announcement during a Facebook Live conversation he had with AARP Alabama Wednesday.

Mayor Reed said a big announcement on public transportation is coming soon but didn’t provide many details.

Reed said “walkability” is a big part of the city’s Vision 2040 plan. He added he wants to create more walking trails to connect neighborhoods like Atlanta does with the Beltline.

You can watch Reed’s full interview on a range of topics below. His discussion of the announcement happened around the 25-minute mark.

The mayor said there have been delays on some plans and studies that weren’t deemed essential because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but he hopes to get them back on track as the city gets back on a “solid financial footing” and the economy stabilizes.

When asked for more details, the mayor’s office said they anticipate an announcement within the next two weeks.
