BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Thousands of people visit BamaTracker.com every day to check on the state’s COVID-19 numbers and now they can check out vaccination rates.
The goal of BamaTracker is make the numbers as easy to understand as possible.
Bama Tracker is coded by David Marconnet who calls himself a big charts guy. He uses state data on COVID-19 and turns it into graphics and easy-to-digest bits of info. He’s rolled out a vaccine tracker now, and color-coded it for simplicity.
“I think people take visuals and people connect with them more easily than a number,” he explained.
“Mobile presentation is important, it’s one of the things I always tried to do was make Bama Tracker work as well as possible on a phone,” said Marconnet.
That portable, easy to digest data system is a labor of love for the software engineer.
“I wanted to do it because it was useful to people, and it’s still useful and there’s a ways to go it looks like even though vaccines are here,” said Marconnet.
He’s gotten a few sponsors now but he’s not doing it for money -- he says he wouldn’t mind a cup of coffee though!
