Auburn Police Division charges two juveniles with theft-related crimes, includes multiple felonies

AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) - The Auburn Police Division charged a 15-year-old and 16-year-old juvenile with numerous theft-related crimes, including multiple felonies.

The arrests stem from a call of a vehicular burglary in the 700 block of Wild Ginger Lane. Police located the two juveniles and took them into custody after briefly chasing them on foot.

According to police, at the scene, several items of property were recovered including a handgun and vehicle that had recently been reported stolen.

After an investigation, the juveniles were identified as suspects in a theft of a vehicle that occurred in the 1700 block of Opelika Rd. around Dec. 15. They were also named suspects in multiple breaking and entering autos that occurred in the same time frame. Police say the investigation determined the juveniles were involved in other incidents which are being investigated by the Opelika Police Department.

The juveniles were charged with the following:

  • Two counts of auto burglary
  • Two counts of theft of property, 4th degree
  • Theft of property,1st degree for the stolen vehicle
  • Fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement

They were transported to the Lee County Youth Development Center where they remain pending a detention hearing.

Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues by the Auburn Police Division and Opelika Police Department.
