MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Dozens of people gathered on the steps of the state Capitol to show their support for President Donald Trump amid Wednesday’s electoral vote certification.

Those demonstrations remained peaceful as they watched the latest news from Washington, D.C. unfold where protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Meanwhile, some other states were forced to evacuate their statehouses amid protests.

“We need our country. We need our country saved, and we need to support our president, and we need to see him be victorious. And right now, as we speak, they’re rejecting electoral votes. It’s awesome news,” said Rick Shaver at the Alabama protest.

Violence ensued in Washington, including tear gas and a fatal shooting.

The Washington demonstrations interrupted the congressional process as lawmakers had to take shelter.
