HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Thursday, Congressman Mo Brooks and other GOP politicians have suggested Antifa is to blame for the pro-Trump mob rioting in the capitol.
However, as of late Thursday, the representative has no verifiable evidence to back up his claims.
Congressman Mo Brooks tweeted what he believes is evidence of Antifa being present in the Washington. In his tweets he said another congressman warned him Antifa would be present at the Trump rally and to not leave the capitol.
He said he slept on his office floor for four days.
After learning this, some of our viewers have asked, if Brooks knew Antifa was present why did he rally people to swarm the capitol?
We took that question to the congressman but never heard back.
“We are not going to let the socialist rip the heart out of this country,” said Alabama’s Congressman Mo Brooks during a pro-Trump rally hours before the riot.
Many across the state and around the nation believe Brooks’ played a role in inciting the riot at the capitol. “Today is a time of choosing and tomorrow is a time for fighting.”
Wednesday morning Brooks stood in front of a podium at a Trump rally declaring false claims of widespread election fraud. “We are not going to let them continue to corrupt our elections and steal from us our God given right to control our nation’s destiny.”
Three hours after Brooks’ speech, members of congress were evacuated as tear gas was fired in the Capitol Rotunda and lawmakers were told to put on gas masks.
Wednesday night Brooks sent out a statement condemning the violence calling it un-American. Saying in part, “I always condemn lawlessness and violence of any kind and in the strongest terms.”
Eventually Congress reconvened Wednesday night to formally confirm Joe Biden as the 46h President of the United States.
Brooks took to Twitter Thursday morning tweeting “time will tell the truth and don’t rush to judgement” along with a series of tweets crediting Antifa for starting the riots not Trump supporters.
The congressman denied a sit-down interview because the interview wasn’t under his conditions.
According to the FBI, Antifa is an ideology not an organized group.
As of Thursday evening, no federal agency has confirmed Antifa was present at the capitol.
