MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The state saw 24,829 new cases of COVID-19 this week, according to the latest numbers from the Alabama Department of Public Health.
As of Friday, the state total number of cases has increased by 5,057 with the seven-day average being 4,077.
111 deaths have been confirmed for Friday and over 300 reported this week, but ADPH says some of those date back seven to eight months.
Meanwhile, the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System, or CAVHCS, has reported eight deaths since Wednesday, bringing the system to a total of 33 known deaths, to date.
Baptist Health currently has 172 COVID-19 inpatients as of Friday. Thursday, Jackson Hospital said it was treating 78 patients.
In Montgomery County, ADPH reported 248 new cases of the disease on Friday, bringing the county’s seven-day average to 211 new cases per day.

Alabama’s school systems have been working to teach students through a variety of ways, whether in-person, through virtual or distance learning, or a hybrid option. ADPH and the state education department have since released a dashboard that is updated weekly that tracks the number of COVID-19 reports on a system-wide level. Each report includes combined student and staff data. Individual schools are not identified due to privacy policies.

The Alabama Department of Corrections oversees more than 26,000 inmates. It provides a report on the disease among prisoners and ADOC staff.
