PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - Three men are behind bars after the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation conducted a search for illegal moonshine stills.
Special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation found a 48-barrel moonshine still off of Rutherford Rd. near Hurtsboro.
Law enforcement officers were able to obtain a search warrant for a residence associated with the still.
Throughout the entire property, officers seized 325 gallons of illegal moonshine and stolen property including a flatbed trailer, a horse trailer, an AR-15 rifle and documents related to identity theft.
58-year-old Manuel Eugene Davis and 37-year-old Gabrius Immanuel Mitchell were arrested and charged with the following:
- Two felony counts of possession of a moonshine still and manufacturing or distribution of moonshine whiskey
- Two felony counts of obscuring a Vehicle Identification Number
- One felony count of possession of marijuana
- One felony count of trafficking in stolen identities
They are both being held in the Russell County Jail on a $38,500 bond.
34-year-old Manuel Eugene Davis Jr. was arrested and charged with the following:
- Two felony counts of possession of a moonshine still and manufacturing or distribution of moonshine whiskey
- Two felony counts of obscuring a Vehicle Identification Number
- One misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana
- One felony count of trafficking in stolen identities
- One felony count of receiving stolen property
ALEA officials say they are continuing to investigate.
