MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Elmore Community Hospital will open a new COVID Clinic Tuesday as cases continue to rise across Alabama.
Representatives with Ivy Creek Healthcare said the decision to open the new clinic was made after many of their clinics became overrun with COVID testing and patients.
“Ivy Creek technically has only 13 clinics. But it’s not just the Ivy Creek healthcare clinics, but all of them are overrun,” Heidi Smith, Executive Director of Marketing and Business Development for Ivy Creek Healthcare, explained.
Smith said the hospital and its parent company, Ivy Creek Healthcare, will be taking a different approach at the hospital to make sure more people can be seen.
“They can come to the drive-thru clinic, get their test results, have those faxed or sent wherever they need be if it’s for work,” Smith said. “If they’re positive, with no symptoms to get orders as to what they can do at home. If they’re having symptoms, then we can set them up an appointment with their primary care physician, or one of our Ivy Creek providers in hopes that the other things that are still going on in this world, which you know, falls and broken bones, and stitches, and bronchitis and all the things that our primary care physicians are used to treating in all of our clinics here in Alabama, that they can have an alternate option.”
Before you come, the clinic needs you to call and pre-register. Smith explained it is a drive-through clinic, but administrators won’t let you just drive up.
“The clinic is going to be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day and we’re going to ask that they call that to do a pre-registration process. Not necessarily a specific appointment time, but we can tell them, ‘hey, come around this time’ to do things to try and get most of their information on the front end, to speed the process up. And also, you know, if they’re coming right away, and we have 10-11 cars that we can say, ‘hey, you might want to wait, you know, 30-45 minutes’ then we can guide them on that process,” said Smith. “
Smith said they are hoping they can expedite the entire process. The number to call to pre-register is 256-307-4010.
