MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - A popular fast food restaurant has made its big return to Montgomery with a groundbreaking held Wednesday to mark the occasion.
Work has started to convert the old Ruby Tuesday restaurant on Eastchase Loop into the city’s newest Whataburger.
Until now, the closest Whataburger to Montgomery was 50 miles away in the Clanton area.
“We’ve been doing so well in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, as well” said Rich Scheffler, Whataburger’s chief marketing officer. “And this was the next natural spot for us to bring our great food to Alabama.”
Hiring will begin later in January with approximately 125 job openings. The plan is to open the restaurant some time this spring.
“We’ve got more opportunities,” Scheffler added. ”We’re looking north. Opelika and Auburn area as well.”
