CAMDEN, Ala. (WSFA) - On Friday, Gov. Kay Ivey will tour the Alabama National Guard mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Wilcox County. While there, she will make an announcement about the state’s vaccine rollout.

The governor will be joined by Alabama State Health Officer Scott Harris, State Chief Medical Officer Mary McIntyre and Alabama National Guard Adjutant General Sheryl Gordon. The press conference is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Friday.

The press conference and tour are happening in Ivey’s hometown of Camden.

On Thursday, the state announced it would begin vaccinating Alabama prison inmates. The prison system said it would begin with those facilities that house the state’s most vulnerable inmates.

Baptists Health also announced Thursday it would open two community COVID-19 vaccine clinics in Montgomery and Prattville. Appointments will be required for both clinics, and vaccines will only be given to those who are eligible.

Currently, Alabama is in Phase 1C of the vaccine rollout, with over 1.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered. The Alabama Department of Public Health says 652, 243 people have been fully vaccinated.
