MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Montgomery police are investigating after a hostage situation and shooting Monday morning. The incident spanned multiple locations in the city.
According to Capt. Saba Coleman, officer and medics were called around 4:30 a.m. to the 2000 block of Rexford Road after a report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found a woman who had non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound.
Coleman says the woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
After the shooting, Coleman says the suspect abducted another woman from the home and fled in a vehicle.
Around 6:30 a.m., MPD found the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop around Ashwood Circle and Oakwood Drive. Coleman says the suspect did not stop and began firing a gun toward the officers.
The suspect later stopped the vehicle around the 2900 block of Birmingham Highway, Coleman added. MPD negotiated the release of the woman but during her release, the suspect shot himself.
The suspect, who has not been named, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He is said to be in life-threatening condition.
The woman is said to ne OK.
No officers were injured throughout the ordeal.
MPD continues to investigate the circumstances around the shooting and abduction.
