GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - Plans to hang a 27-foot-long shark replica outside a surf shop are stirring debate in an Alabama beach town.
The owners of Alvin’s Island in Gulf Shores have applied to the city to display the massive model outside the store near the beach.
But one member of the planning commission says sharks bite people and the display isn’t appropriate for children.
Other questions concerns whether the replica would fit in with plans to spruce up a central part of town for development.
One tourist store in Gulf Shores already has an entrance shaped like a shark’s mouth. The commission will reconsider the issue later this month.
