MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Alabama State Hornets took down the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Saturday.
The Delta Devils were the first to strike when Orlando Fernandez made a 26-yard field goal.
The Hornets would answer back. With over five minutes left in the first quarter, Myles Crawley ran the ball three-yards for a touchdown.
However, the Delta Devils would add more points to the board before the end of the opening quarter when quarterback Jalani Eason made his way to the endzone for a 24-yard touchdown.
The Delta Devils had the lead 10-7 heading into the second quarter.
The Hornets would strike back in the beginning of the second quarter. Quarterback Ryan Nettles connected with receiver Wallace Corker for a 59-yard touchdown.
The Hornets were in the lead 14-10 going into halftime.
Alabama State would extend their lead. With less than five minutes left in the third quarter, Nettles found receiver Jeremiah Hixon for a 15-yard touchdown.
But the Delta Devils would answer. With under two minutes left in the quarter, Eason connected with wide receiver Malik Myers for a seven-yard touchdown.
Heading into the final quarter, the Hornets remained in the lead 21-17.
With over 12 minutes left to play, Alabama State would advanced their lead. Nettles ran the ball 14-yards for the touchdown.
The Hornets would strike again. With over nine minutes left, Nettles connected with receiver Jahod Booker for a 14-yard touchdown.
The Hornets would advanced their lead with a minute left to go in the game when running back Robert Rivers made his way to the endzone for a one-yard touchdown.
The Hornets came out on top 42-17 against the Delta Devils
The Hornets are now 3-2. Next, they take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in the Magic City Classic to wrap up their season.
