MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - He was named the Class 2A MVP last week, and a McDonald’s All-American earlier this year. And on Sunday, Calhoun’s JD Davison was named Mr. Basketball 2021.

It’s the second consecutive year Davison has won the title. He becomes the third straight player to win the Mr. Basketball award in consecutive seasons, joining John Petty Jr. and Trendon Watford.

Davison is the No. 1 prospect from his class in the state of Alabama and ranked as the ninth best player in the nation. He led Calhoun to the Final Four for the second straight season, dropping 45 points in the Tigers’ loss to Midfield in the state semifinals.

He is a two-time Class 2A Player of the Year, averaging 32.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists in his senior season. He’s headed to Tuscaloosa this fall to play for Coach Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Geneva County’s Karoline Striplin was named Miss Basketball.
