A 63-year-old former pastor from Kentucky apologized in court for sending and soliciting child pornography on Facebook.

U.S. District Judge Ginny Granade sentenced the defendant, Jerry L. Cannon, on Tuesday to the minimum 17½ years in federal sentencing guidelines and said the sentence is appropriate.

Cannon pleaded guilty in April to possession and distribution of child pornography. He admitted he posted child pornography on various Facebook profiles, using his own and fake names. Court records indicated that Cannon used 13 phony accounts.

Cannon, who was raised in Mobile and later worked as a surveyor in Kentucky, founded the nondenominational Church of God in Dry Ridge, Ky., with his wife and two other couples about 4 years ago.

The FBI began investigating in January, after Fairhope police passed along a complaint.
