3.0 earthquake rattles Birmingham area

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WSFA) - Residents near Birmingham were rattled Tuesday evening by an earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter Scale.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was registered around 5:59pm CST and the epicenter was approximately 8 miles East-Northeast of Birmingham, or 86 miles North-Northwest of Montgomery.
Initial reports indicate the quake was 8.7 miles in depth.
There's no word on any injuries or damage at this point.
WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham is reporting that the quake's epicenter is in the city of Trussville.
