EUFAULA, AL (WSFA) - Eufaula police and the Barbour County Sheriff's Office are working to track down the person they believe assaulted a local real estate agent, leaving him with serious injuries.

According to Sgt. Larry Hubbard, an investigator with the Eufaula Police Department, the victim, 64-year-old John "Buddy" Lawrence, was checking on a property at an apartment complex on Doctor T V McCoo Boulevard North around noon on Wednesday when he was "jumped."

Hubbard could not expand on Lawrence's injuries but other law enforcement sources say the brutal beating left him with serious facial injuries. Lawrence was taken to the Medical Center Barbour in Eufaula. The hospital could not release any information on his condition Friday.

Police say they have identified a suspect in the case and the investigation in ongoing. A motive in the violent assault is not known, investigators said.

The city of Eufaula confirms that Buddy Lawrence served as Public Works Superintendent for 10 years, from 1997-2007.
