More Troops Leaving Alabama Tuesday For Iraq

Family, friends and well-wishers will say tearful goodbyes on Tuesday as dozens of Alabama Army National Guard troops prepare for duty in Iraq.

A Guard spokesman said deployment ceremonies are planned in Selma and Troy. 80 members of Headquarters, 122nd Corps Support Group, will hold their event at 8:30 a.m. at Fort W.W. Quarles on Highway 80 West in Selma. Another ceremony will be held for 120 soldiers assigned to Headquarters, Third Battalion 117th Field Artillery in Troy. The event starts at 10 a.m. at the Fort Ralph W. Adams.

The public is encouraged to attend the ceremonies. Alabama has contributed nearly nine-thousand Army and Air Guard personnel in the war on terrorism since September eleventh, 2001.
