Auburn QB Nick Marshall cited for 'possession of marijuana less than one ounce'

Auburn University quarterback Nick Marshall was cited in Reynolds, Georgia Friday for 'possession of marijuana less than one ounce', according to Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie Holder.

Reynolds is located in Taylor County, Ga. approximately 90 miles east of Auburn.

Marshall's vehicle was pulled over at 12:48 p.m. due to a possible window tinting violation, the chief said.

The officer reported smelling marijuana, but found only residue amounting to less than a single ounce.

Marshall was cited but was not arrested, the chief said.

Just hours before Marshall's citation, he posted to his Instagram account, "Some ppl say I changed but I just came to reality an realized what the mad above had in stor for me so I took it an ran with it!!! Love my Lifestyle!!! Looking forward to SEC Media Day!!! Wareagle"

The timing of the citation could hardly come at a worse time. SEC Media Days is Monday and Marshall is scheduled to appear.

Marshall led the Tigers to a turn-around season last year, going from 3-9 the previous year all the way to a win in the SEC Championship game and within seconds of a win in the BCS National Championship game.

In a statement released on Friday, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said, "I am aware of the situation that happened earlier today with Nick. I'm very disappointed and I will address it with him accordingly."
