ELMORE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - Haynes Ambulance has a new tool to transport patients to the hospital faster.
Elmore County officials say there is no question that their new medical helicopter will help save lives. It's the only medical helicopter within 60 miles.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in Wetumpka on Tuesday where the chopper is housed.
Chief Operating Officer Kirk Barrett told WSFA 12 News that this helicopter will allow medics to get patients to the hospital faster. Barrett says that they can get a patient from Wetumpka to Montgomery in under ten minutes and less than 30 minutes to Birmingham.
"Our mission is to save lives and this is what this is all about," Barrett said.
The helicopter is already in operation, and Barrett says the helicopter will serve the entire region.
