Sex offender operation held in Lowndes County
LOWNDES CO., AL (WSFA) - On Wednesday, U.S. Marshals offered much needed assistance in Lowndes County as they helped verify the addresses of 46 sex offenders.
"They know where they're suppose to be, and what they're suppose to do," said Lt. G. LaShun Hutson of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.
As you can imagine, some of them weren't complying with the law.
Deputy Dante Gordon along with a team of U.S. Marshals arrested McKenly Mushatt in Saginaw, Michigan. Mushatt hasn't been registered for three years.
Taurus Shackleford was located in Detroit, Michigan by authorities. And a warrant was signed on Edward Stuber, convicted on child molestation charges and is believed to be living with minors.
The reason why these verification points are so critical is that some of these sex offenders say they are living at certain address, but they are not.
Larry Joe Miller, Jr. was convicted of sex abuse of a 10-year-old girl, and is listed as living at 392 Pecan Street.
However, when WSFA 12 News went to Pecan Street, the only occupied home on the street had an address of 292, and the name did not match. Not to mention, there were children's bikes in front of the home.
The only other home down Pecan Street was abandoned, labeled as 386. Miller's alleged address was no where in sight.
"Many arrests are coming," Gordon said. "If you're watching, call Hutson. Now's your opportunity."
Marshals confirm they will be back with warrants. No word on how many arrests are expected, or if Miller is one of them.
