MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A construction worker is safe after being pulled from a trench cave-in on the property of the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System in Montgomery.
The worker was part of a crew doing excavation work around the VA facility on Perry Hill Road when around 11 a.m. the ground shifted and he was caught in the collapse.
First responders were called to the scene, and the worker was quickly pulled from the hole. Montgomery Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Martha Earnhardt said the the shifting dirt apparently reached to about the height of the worker's knees, briefly trapping him.
The worker was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is said to have suffered only minor injuries.
