PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Investigators say a juvenile brought a pistol to Prattville Jr. High School Tuesday, prompting the school to go into a lockdown situation.

Autauga County Superintendent Spence Agee said police placed the school on lockdown for about 15 minutes after the juvenile's family alerted the school a gun had gone missing. The gun was later located in the student's backpack.

Superintendent Agee said he does not know what the student's motive was for bringing the gun on campus. The weapon was not loaded, the superintendent said.

Agree declined to say whether the student would be suspended or expelled.

For now, police have taken the teen into custody. Due to his age, his identity is not being released.
