The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says a 9-year-old Autistic boy has died after being struck by a train Tuesday morning.

The boy was apparently playing on the train tracks near County Road 63 in Plantersville when he was struck.

Investigators say the train conductor was unable to stop in time. The boy, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The child's mother was inside their home, located nearby, when the accident happened sometime between 8:30 and 9 a.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
