ENTERPRISE, AL (WSFA) - Not much has changed over the last month when it comes to unemployment in the state.
Friday morning, the governor's office announced Alabama has maintained its 6.2 percent unemployment rate through July and August. However, job seekers in Enterprise took advantage of employment opportunities at Arista Aviation's job fair Friday. Officials say, people were lined up two hours before they opened the doors.
"I didn't expect over 100 some people within the first hour, but that's what we've had so that's a good sign that there are eager people wanting to come here and work in the local area," said William Parsons, Arista Aviation's chief operations officer.
Department of Labor statistics show Coffee County's unemployment rate for August at 6.5 percent. Jeff Bowden is one of many residents without work. He's worked in the aviation industry for five years, and he's seeking a job as an aircraft mechanic.
"I've applied to probably three or four different places, and they're either not hiring or they're losing contracts and laying people off so it's kind of a struggle right now," Bowden said.
Arista is looking to fill about 20 positions now, but within the next 30 days leaders say they'll be filling another 27.
If you missed the job fair you still have time to apply.
