JACKSON, MS (WSFA) - The Huntingdon Hawks improved to 2-1 on Saturday after defeating the Belhaven Blazers 35-21 at H.T. Newell Field in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Blazers kept the game close in the first half, and led the Hawks 10-7 going into the half.
The Hawks came out and dominated the second half of the game, scoring 14 points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth quarter. The Hawks defense also held the Blazers to just 11 points in the second half.
Quarterback Luke Bailey had another solid outing for the Hawks, completing 11 passes on 21 attempts for 180 yards. Bailey did not throw a touchdown, but did have one interception.
The Hawks had four players that carried the ball on Saturday, with John Iwaniec leading the way. Iwaniec recorded 77 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns.
Jay Ware was the next leading carrier with 50 yards on ten carries.
Jamichael Bibb was Bailey's favorite target, hauling in five catches for 85 yards. The next leading receiver was Nick Haas who had 55 yards on two receptions.
The Hawks recorded 348 total yards of offense, with 168 of those yards coming on the ground and 180 coming through the air. The Hawks also attempted two fourth down plays, and converted on both of them.
Huntingdon turned the ball over twice against the Blazers, a fumble and interception, and gave up five sacks. The Hawks were also five of seven in the red zone.
The Blazers racked up 370 total yards of offense against the Hawks, 300 of which were passing yards.
Belhaven turned the ball over twice, both were interceptions, and gave up one sack. The Blazers were three of four in the red zone, and one of three on fourth down conversions.
Huntingdon takes on conference foe N.C. Wesleyan next Saturday at home.
