LEE CO., AL (WSFA) - An East Alabama faith-based organization on a mission to help men struggling with addiction and other life controlling issues is opening a new facility in hopes of helping more start anew!

New Birth Ministries was launched by Waymon Johnson in 2002. Out of that ministry Johnson, who overcame a cocaine addiction, began the New Birth residential addiction program. It started with just two men but throughout the years has grown.

Saturday New Birth cut the ribbon on its new men's center with enough space to house 30. These men will be part of a year-long program based on Christian discipleship.

"To see people's lives when they come in that door and they are all messed up and they have lost everything they had, but then to see their lives changed and God start to put it all back together, that is the part that makes me feel like it is worth doing it all," Johnson explained.

During the year, the men will also go through counseling, financial workshops, and job readiness courses to give them the tools needed to succeed when they leave.
