MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Huntingdon Hawks defeated the Methodist Monarchs 42-6 on Saturday to pick up their fifth straight victory of the season. The win improves the Hawks' 2015 record to 6-1.
The Hawks jumped out to a quick lead against the Monarchs, and never let up as Huntingdon led Methodist 28-3 at the half.
The Monarchs ran 75 offensive plays compared to Huntingdon's 48 offensive plays, but the Hawks outgained the Monarchs 400 yard to 265.
Luke Bailey had a career day under center, completing ten passes on 17 attempts for 140 yards and three touchdowns.
Bailey's favorite target on Saturday was receiver Nick Haas who had 67 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions.
The Hawks did most of their damage on the ground as the Huntingdon running backs rushed for 260 yards. John Iwaniec led the ground game with 93 yards on seven rushes. Vic Jerald added 81 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Bailey also had a rushing touchdown and 49 yards on five carries.
Methodist quarterback Dylan DeGroot completed 20 passes on 34 attempts for 156 yards, but was picked off twice by the Huntingdon defense. DeGroot also lost a fumble against Huntingdon, bringing his turnover total on Saturday to three.
Huntingdon will travel next week to Greensboro, North Carolina to take on Greensboro College.
