Suspect charged with murder in weekend shooting in Dothan
DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The Dothan Police Department has arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man Saturday morning on the west side of the city.
The shooting happened around 11 a.m. in the 800 block of Whiddon Street.
According to the Dothan Police Department, when police officers arrived on the scene, they found James Gillard's body on the side of the road. The 33-year-old Dothan resident was transported to Southeast Alabama Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Andrea Flagg, 30, was taken into custody after being spotted on West Main Street Sunday morning. Officers were searching for Flagg after he was identified as a suspect during the homicide investigation. Flagg was booked in the Dothan City Jail on a murder charge. He's being held without bond.
Investigators were able to determine the shooting was the result of a physical altercation between the two men. Police believe Flagg took out a gun and shot the victim twice in the back.
"Throughout the course of the investigation evidence was recovered, multiple residences were searched. Some of those were consent searches and others, search warrants. Evidence was recovered that linked this individual that we've charged," said Dothan Police Chief Steven Parrish.
Police believe another shooting Saturday morning led to this case. Around 9:30, someone shot into an occupied vehicle. Police are working to identify that suspect and others involved.
