Weather Blog: Rain Saturday night, colder Sunday

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A FOGGY START: Thick fog has been commonplace around central and south Alabama as we kick off our weekend. The fog will gradually diminish this afternoon, but be careful if you're out driving early today. Pretty thick stuff! Check out this shot from our ALFA Insurance Camera Network spot in Prattville (Howard Johnson Inn) last night:

RAIN COMING SOON: Clouds thicken up today and rain will arrive in south Alabama after sunset. Light to moderate rain will overspread south Alabama, with mainly scattered showers in the central counties. Snow fans, this will be only a cold rain for our part of the state, as temperatures tonight drop into the upper 30s to lower 40s. Close call, but nothing more for us. Could see a few light snow showers over the northern third of the state, but even there, no travel problems are anticipated. Here's the RPM's depiction of the rain:

TURNING COLDER: Much colder air sweeps into the state tomorrow and lingers through early next week. Highs Monday will stay in the 40s, and we'll likely see some mid-20s around here by sunrise Tuesday. Chilly weather for the MLK holiday:
