WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - Investigators with the Wetumpka Police Department say the suspect they arrested for the murder of a 57-year-old man local resident 'confessed' to the crime while on the scene.

Jacob Cody Scott Sanders, 23, was taken into custody and charged with killing Tracey Raye Brooks, Sr. Monday afternoon.

Brooks' body was found inside a home in the 1000 block of Northwest Main Street around 5 p.m that day. Investigators said he suffered a single, fatal gunshot to the chest.

Police say they still don't know the motive. Sanders and Brooks knew each other, detectives confirmed, but did not offer any specifics about the relationship.

Court records show Sanders will have his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. He remains in the Elmore County Jail on a $150,000 bond. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.

Brooks is the first homicide victim in Wetumpka in three years.
