High speed chase ends with Skipperville man's arrest

DALE CO., AL, (WSFA) - A Skipperville man is in police custody after a high speed chase that topped more than 100 mph, says authorities with the Dale County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect, Johnny Whigham, 33, is charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Methamphetamine and Synthetic Marijuana, as well as Attempting to Elude and a probation violation out of Louisiana.

According to Capt. Mason Bynum with the sheriff's office, a deputy on a motorcycle attempted a traffic stop after a vehicle made an improper turn onto Highway 105 near Ozark. The vehicle also did not have proper registration.

The driver, later identified as Whigham, refused to stop, and the deputy pursued with speeds of more than 100 mph.

The chase extended out of Hwy 105 towards Skipperville, the officer reported.

Whigham's vehicle appeared to have a mechanical malfunction as it turned onto Mary McClendon Rd. That's where the deputy was able to take the suspect into custody without further incident.

Whigham is being held at the Dale County Jail under no bond.
