MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Officially, Spring is 29 days away but that message wasn't relayed to mother nature. Today we had a high temperature of 74 degrees here in Montgomery, with even warmer temperatures in more southern areas.
TONIGHT: Clear skies tonight as high pressure remains in control. Winds will still be out of the south but not as breezy as this afternoon. Overnight temperatures should dip to only the low to mid 40s. Yes cool, but overall not too shabby of a night.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY: This weekend will feel great but visually cloud cover will steadily take away our sunny weather. Saturday will be even warmer than today. Most areas are likely to reach into the mid 70s. Due to southerly flow moisture will be building into the area along with the warmer air. This will show in the form of increased cloud cover. Skies will still be partly cloudy. Sunday, expect mostly cloudy skies as our next rain maker approaches. For now Sunday looks to remain dry for most of central and southern Alabama. There may be a few showers north of Birmingham. Depending on the progression of the storm system this could change so be sure to read up on future updates.
NEXT WEEK: A few showers are possible late Sunday night but the bulk of the rainfall still isn't due until Monday. A cold front will slowly move through the state Monday and Tuesday. This will bring widespread rain and some storms to the area on both days. We'll have to watch the development of storms closely because this system looks favorable to bring a hefty amount of rainfall to the area. This could lead to some isolated flash flooding and wet commutes on the highways and byways. Despite the widespread rain and cloud cover temperatures will still be warm in the mid to upper 60s Monday and Tuesday. Behind the front we'll have cooler air that will knock temperatures down in the mid to upper 50s Wednesday and Thursday. So before the rain and storms return, get out and enjoy this spectacular and warm weekend!
