ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - Elmore County Schools broke ground on a new automotive technology building today. The building is an expansion at the Elmore County Technical Center.

Automotive technology is just one of the many programs that will be offered at ECTC. Officials say this program will offer students the opportunity to learn automotive systems diagnostics, maintenance and repair.

Dr. Andre Harrison says students who go through the program will be ready for a job in automotive mechanics when they graduate.

It's going to be one building with a like classroom part, you'll have garage part and a bay area. Again, everything that they need to know about automotive mechanics, we are going to simulate it right here on this campus." Harrison says. "That's what I'm so excited about; it's a good investment for our children."

The expansion is approximately 2,000 square feet and will include vehicle bays and work areas. The bays will contain a vehicle lift, compressed air outlets and electrical receptacles for connection of power tools. It will also connect to the existing Automobile Technology building.
