Victim in Feb. 25 Tuskegee murder identified, suspect still sought

TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) - The Tuskegee Police Department has released the name of a homicide victim whose body was found on Feb. 25 in the 3000 block of Foster Street.
Chief Lester Patrick's office says the victim is 34-year-old Robert Montez Smith. He was shot and killed sometime between 8 and 8:30 that evening.
Investigators believe Smith answered a knock at the door. When he answered it, the suspect shot him point blank.
Police were already in the area dealing with another incident when there were flagged down and notified about Smith being shot.
At this point a motive is not known, and there are no arrests. There are some leads, detectives say, though they did not provide any details.
Chief Patrick has asked the State Bureau of Investigation for assistance.
Anyone with information into Smith's death should contact the Secret Witness Line at 334-727-9865 or 334-727-0200.
