DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The first phase of an expansion project at Wayne Farms in Dothan is weeks away from completion.

Job seekers got the chance to sit down with Wayne Farms representatives for interviews Thursday.

Management says the expansion will provide 600 new positions. They've already hired about 200 people who are currently in training. Thursday they conducted more interviews, and they're looking to hire approximately 400 more people.

The poultry farm is looking to hire supervisors as well as production and maintenance employees. Wages start at $10 an hour.

Wayne Farms is one of the largest poultry producers in the United States with annual sales exceeding $2.2 billion.

"We're excited about growing in Dothan. We bought this facility the first part of 2013, and we've had to revamp it some. Now we're adding all these jobs, and we're excited about doing it. The workforce here has been great, and that's one of the reasons why we decided to expand here," said Brad Williams, Wayne Farms South Alabama Area Complex manager.

If you haven't put in your application there's still time to apply. You can submit one online at

Management hopes to have the project completed by summer.

Wayne Farms is also building a new feed mill in Newton.

Officials expect that facility to add approximately 85 jobs. It's expected to be completed in a year.
