CHILTON CO., AL (WSFA) - A single-vehicle wreck on Tuesday claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The crash happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Chilton County roads 530 and 23, approximately nine miles south of Clanton.
The child was a passenger in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer that left the roadway and overturned. State Troopers say the child, who was not restrained, was ejected after the SUV rolled over. The child was pronounced dead on the scene.
Sonya Gardner, the driver of the Trailblazer and the child's mother, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Another child in the front seat was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
State Trooper Sgt. Steve Jarrett says an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. The findings will be presented to the district attorney's office.
