Man found dead behind shopping center in Opelika identified
OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - The Opelika Police Department says they are now investigating the case in which a man's body was found behind a shopping center as a homicide.
At around 8:30 p.m. on April 8, officers and medical personnel responded to the area behind the Crooked Creek Shopping Center in the 800 block of Columbus Parkway in reference to an unresponsive male.
Once officers and medical personnel arrived on scene, it was determined that the male, now identified as 50-year-old David Bradarvelt of Waverly Hall, Georgia, had no signs of life. The male was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.
An autopsy is being performed on the male to determine the exact cause of death.
Police were originally investigating the case as a death investigation, but have since upgraded it to a homicide after it was determined that Bradarvelt's death was suspicious.
Opelika detectives are assisting investigators from Harris County, which is where Waverly Hall is, as well as investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this case, or anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area of the crime, is asked to contact the Opelika Police Department at 334-705-5220 or the Secret Witness Hotline at 334-745-8665.
