MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Don't let the partial sunshine this morning fool you...there's rain knocking on our door. A cold front is slowly inching closer, and as it nears rain chances will start to pick up. I think the vast majority of folks stay dry until the afternoon. But by afternoon, we'll enter a stretch of a good 24+ hours where we'll be dodging raindrops...
TODAY: A band of generally light rain is getting ready to jump the Mississippi state line into Alabama. This batch could provide a few raindrops across our far western counties late this morning, but rain is unlikely elsewhere. That rain will be working into an area of relatively drier air, so it's possible it struggles to hang on. But by afternoon, heating of the day should be sufficient to get isolated to scattered showers and storms going.
This won't be anything close to a widespread rain event. Your chances of getting wet today are no higher than a coin flip with highs around 80 degrees.
Scattered showers and storms will continue overnight.
FRIDAY: We won't be done with rain chances tomorrow. In fact, there should be greater coverage tomorrow versus today with the cold front nearby. The SPC maintains a Marginal risk for severe weather. I'll continue to use the word "unlikely" with regard to severe weather potential, but a few stronger cells with gusty winds will be possible with modest instability in place.
THE WEEKEND: Rain will be long gone as the weekend rolls around. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday will make for another dandy!
