MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The ex-girlfriend of recently captured fugitive Raymond Pruitt has been arrested by U.S. Marshals in a shocking twist that brings the case full circle. An attack on Kisha Johnson back on April 5 left her near death and sparked what would become a manhunt to find Pruitt.
Johnson, who has since been released from the hospital, is now charged with felony hindering prosecution after U.S. Marshals say she gave Pruitt money and communicated with him while knowing he was a fugitive.
U.S. Marshals say Johnson's help enabled Pruitt to continue a multi-state crime spree which resulted in five armed robberies in Alabama as well as the robbery and murder of a convenience store clerk in Pensacola, Florida.
Pruitt, a Montgomery native, is accused of stabbing Johnson numerous times before shooting her and stealing her vehicle. Over the next several weeks, Pruitt would be sought by U.S. Marshals and law enforcement in Prattville, Montgomery, Troy and Ozark on a string of armed robberies. On April 26, the robbery of a Pensacola store clerk turned deadly.
Pruitt was captured in Troy on Friday after a high speed chase that involved shots fired at police. He's since been transported by to the Montgomery County Jail.
Johnson was arrested at her home Tuesday. She's being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $15,000 bond.
